  • Many of our families and friends create teams for a special child affected with MPS/ML. Teams in the past have created team t-shirts, buttons, and more with the special child’s name and/or picture displayed.  This is a wonderful way of raising money for your team and awareness for MPS and ML.

  • Families also have made poster of their children affected with MPS and ML.  Last year we had over 20 posters showing the beautiful faces and lives of our special children.

  • E-mail your friends and family, so you can achieve your personal and team fundraising goals.  Contact WALK & RUN L.A. for a blank flyer so you can attach a picture of your special team child.  This makes it more personal for your team.

  • Make a List of everyone you know.

  • THINK BIG! Set your personal or team fundraising goal. We ask that each walker set a minimum goal of $200, but why stop there? The more clear you are about your fundraising goal, the more likely you are to reach it. So what is your personal or team goal? $1000? $5000? $10,000?

  • Plan! Whether they are family, friends, or your local grocer, decide what would be the best method to approach your potential donors (i.e. face-to-face or through a letter). Tailor your pitch to meet each donor’s needs. Letter writing campaigns are the most effective fundraising method. Remember to include a copy of the pledge form with every letter.

  • Never underestimate your donors. Start by asking high. This allows your donor room to volunteer an amount that they might consider manageable. You never know, they may surprise you and give the amount you request.

  • Know that your donors may ask why raising funds for MPS and ML is important to you. It is imperative to have a clear answer for why you are raising this money, whether it be in support of a family member or because you feel strongly about raising funds to find treatments and a cure for MPS/ML disorders.  You can request a "What is MPS Slideshow" from Tami Slawson or at www.youtube.com/mpsrun

  • Thank Everyone!!!   Write thank you letters, make phone calls, or thank in-person the wonderful people who have donated.   Most people donate to your cause or your team because they care.  Let them know how much their support has helped your family or your team!
